MLB Power Rankings: Week 10

Posted by Dave DeIuliis

Excepting a climb from Tony LaRussa and the consistent Cards, the top of this week’s power rankings remains relatively unaltered. The Rays and Red Sox continue to, literally, battle atop the AL East, while unproven pitching has slowed the Marlins and Astros.

Bottom dwellers like the Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds are beginning to show promise while preseason favorites Seattle and Detroit have fizzled.

1. Chicago Cubs - It took 100 years, but the Cubs again have best record on June 1
2. Tampa Bay Rays - 64 steals leads majors, .989 FP among league’s best
3. St. Louis Cardinals - Unspectacular, but 18-13 record in NL Central
4. Boston Red Sox - 2nd in AL in runs scored, but injury to Ortiz will hurt
5. Philadelphia Phillies - 89 home runs, including 21 from Chase Utley, leads MLB
6. Chicago White Sox - Patchwork rotation has saved league’s 20th ranked offense
7. Los Angeles Angels - 5 game win streak includes sweep of Seattle
8. Arizona Diamondbacks - Have dropped 8 of last 10
9. Florida Marlins - Staff has seventh fewest Ks (355) and fifth most walks (235)
10. Atlanta Braves - 3.9 runs allowed leads NL
11. Houston Astros - 15-9 at Minute Maid Park, but just 16-20 on the road
12. Oakland Athletics - Scored 31 runs over 4 game win streak
13. Toronto Blue Jays - MLB’s best pitching staff negated by 23rd ranked offense
14. Minnesota Twins - Walked the fewest in MLB, but also struck out the fewest
15. Milwaukee Brewers - Won 6 in a row to run home record to 19-10
16. New York Yankees - 39-year-old Mike Mussina leads team in ERA and wins
17. Los Angeles Dodgers - Scored 1 run or less in 6 of last 10 games (2-8)
18. Baltimore Orioles - 12-19 road record has them looking up at the AL East
19. Texas Rangers - Lead AL in runs scored and HR, but last in ERA and walks
20. New York Mets - Won three straight series, including sweep of Marlins
21. Pittsburgh Pirates - Finished 11-11 in 22 straight games against NL Central
22. Cleveland Indians - Victor Martinez still without a home run on the year
23. Cincinnati Reds - 19-10 at home, 10-22 on the road
24. San Francisco Giants - Dropped 4 out of 6 games after sweeping Diamondbacks
25. Washington Nationals - 27 RBIs of injured Ryan Zimmerman still lead team
26. Detroit Tigers - Scoring 4.7 runs a game, but allowing over 5.1
27. San Diego Padres - Jake Peavy still leads team with 4 wins
28. Colorado Rockies - Coors Field not helping offense: scoring 4.1 runs a game
29. Kansas City Royals - Jose Guillen leads team with 7 home runs
30. Seattle Mariners - 60 games played, 7 road wins
