MLB Team Power Rankings: Week 11

Posted by Dave DeIuliis

Sixty-seven games into their season and the Chicago Cubs must face a little adversity, at least for the next six weeks. They have won 4 straight games and remain atop our power rankings, but the injury to Alfonso Soriano lessens their offensive punch and flexibility, not to mention the confidence of the Wrigley faithful.

The Tampa Bay Rays and Florida Marlins, despite the expected occasional sputter, remain in the top 10, while the once promising Blue Jays and Indians have slipped.

1. Chicago Cubs - Soriano-less for 6 weeks, but still with majors’ best record
2. Los Angeles Angels - Have won last 8 series, including sweep of Seattle
3. Philadelphia Phillies - 7-3 in last 10 games while rest of division is 13-27
4. Boston Red Sox - 27-7 at Fenway, but still just 14-20 on the road
5. Tampa Bay Rays - Lead MLB with 72 stolen bases
6. Chicago White Sox - Like the Red Sox, 20-9 at home and 17-20 on the road
7. Arizona Diamondbacks - .251 team batting average ranks 25th in MLB
8. St. Louis Cardinals - Won 4 straight, but Pujols and Wainwright injuries will hurt
9. Florida Marlins - 101 home runs leads MLB, but 4.52 ERA ranks 25th
10. Oakland Athletics - Mediocre offense, but allowing only 3.8 runs per game
11. Houston Astros - One of league’s best offenses, but 4-12 since May 25
12. Atlanta Braves - Injury list continues to grow, but so does BA of Chipper Jones
13. Milwaukee Brewers - .252 BA ranks 24th in MLB, but 76 home runs 5th
14. Toronto Blue Jays - 3-7 June record has Jays tied for last in AL East
15. New York Yankees - Consistently mediocre; 18-15 at home, 15-18 on the road
16. New York Mets - Scoring, and allowing, 4.7 runs per game
17. Baltimore Orioles - Like the rest of the AL East, significantly better at home
18. Minnesota Twins - As expected, Mauer and Morneau littering team statistics
19. Los Angeles Dodgers - Huroki Kuroda’s(3-6) 3.49 ERA leads team
20. Texas Rangers - Leading league in runs scored (5.6), but last in runs allowed
21. Pittsburgh Pirates - Perennially inept offense is 7th in MLB in runs scored
22. Cincinnati Reds - Pitching staff leads majors with 533 Ks
23. Cleveland Indians - Recalled Josh Barfield could help .242 team batting average
24. San Francisco Giants - Hard-throwing rotation last in NL with 270 walks
25. San Diego Padres - Won 2 straight and are 20-18 at Petco Park
26. Detroit Tigers - Won 3 in a row, and interleague play could be a jumpstart
27. Washington Nationals - Ryan Zimmerman leads team with 8 home runs
28. Kansas City Royals - Allowing over a full run more than they score
29. Colorado Rockies - Still with only 10 wins on the raod
30. Seattle Mariners - 3-7 in June and 11-27 since May 1
