MLB Team Power Rankings: Week 12

Posted by Dave DeIuliis

Another week, and not much change atop our weekly power rankings. The Cubs and Red Sox continue to roll despite injuries to key players while the Astros have begun to lose ground in a competitive NL Central.

The Phillies and Marlins are riding prolific offenses; the defense of the Tampa Bay Rays has carried an inconsistent, untested lineup; and don’t look now, but the Detroit Tigers have won seven in a row.

1. Chicago Cubs - NL leader in runs scored (5.5) and runs allowed (4)
2. Los Angeles Angels - 10-5 in June, but only 5-5 in last 10
3. Boston Red Sox - Have lost a league low 7 games at home
4. Philadelphia Phillies - 5.4 runs per game leads NL
5. St. Louis Cardinals - Injury to steady backstop Molina may hurt
6. Chicago White Sox - 6 of next 9 games against Cubs
7. Tampa Bay Rays - Lead MLB in steals (81) but 17th in runs scored (4.5)
8. Arizona Diamondbacks - 15-19 road record, but still leading weak division
9. Milwaukee Brewers- Ryan Braun leads team in HR, RBI, and average
10. Oakland Athletics - Staff ERA (3.04) leads majors
11. Florida Marlins - 104 home runs leads MLB
12. Texas Rangers - Milton Bradley on pace for 34 HR, 108 RBI
13. Toronto Blue Jays - Just 3-7 record in last 10 games
14. New York Yankees - Scored 29 runs in last 3 games
15. Baltimore Orioles - 20-12 at Camden Yards, but 15-22 everywhere else

17. Pittsburgh Pirates - Surprising offense ranks 5th in MLB in runs scored
18. Houston Astros - Have given up 43 runs during 6 game losing streak
19. Los Angeles Dodgers - Rafael Furcal not expected back until after All-Star break
20. New York Mets - How will the Mets respond with Randolph out and Manuel in?
