Crabby Old Man Gets Wise to Twitter

Posted by Dustin Hockensmith

In internet technology terms, I’m an ignorant, blue-haired fuddy duddy. Don’t want to hear about the newest apps or social networks, just want to read sports stories, write a blog and be left alone. It wasn’t until reading Will Leitch’s column in the Sporting News this week that I truly opened up to Twitter and got what the fuss was all about.

Leitch talked about Shaq’s Twitter page and how athletes are becoming more accessible through their blogs, MySpace pages, Twitters, etc. Which is great, it was a nice story. But, I simply had no idea that Twitter could be updated using a mobile device until hearing that Shaq did it. Truly incredible. Who knew you could up your Internet I.Q. by sitting on the crapper and reading print media?

The day before, Chicago sent starting pitcher Jason Marquis to the Colorado Rockies for reliever Luis Vizcaino. Depending on one’s preference to spin, that deal, as well as the DeRosa trade, accomplished several things. Read more »

So Long, Jose Arredondo

Posted by Dustin Hockensmith

Jose Arredondo isn’t technically going anywhere. Well, except maybe making the short trek from the ninth inning to the seventh.

With the signing of closer Brian Fuentes, any and all expectations that Arredondo would get a crack at closing in ‘09 went out the window. The Los Angeles Angels inked Fuentes to a 2-year, $17.5-million deal Wednesday, according to the L.A. Times. Read more »
