Fantasy Baseball Lunch Links: Jason Heyward, Cliff Lee and Jason Bartlett

Posted by Anthony Barton

The Fantasy Man can’t think of a more intriguing player in the National League than Atlanta’s rookie, Jason Heyward.

Arguably the top prospect in all of baseball, he could easily be the Braves starting right fielder on opening day. He is a great mid-late round value, especially in keeper leagues because he has superstar potential well into the next decade.

Seattle Mariners’ ace Cliff Lee’s surgery has left some fantasy owners skeptical he can produce at the high level he has the last two seasons. Fantasy Fanhouse tells owners not to fret.

Lee had minor foot surgery with an expected return of 2-3 weeks. FF tells us the fact the Mariners may limit his spring training innings could drop his draft stock. With consistency and a Cy Young the past two years, Lee should remain one of the top 15 pitchers for 2010.

An interesting interview with “Fantasyland” author, Sam Walker, via Fantasy Baseball.com. It’s a really interesting look on fantasy baseball in general. Be sure to look at how he got started.

Fantasy Baseball Addiction explains their 2010 fantasy value for Johnny Damon. With Detroit, Tampa Bay and Atlanta in the running for his services, this article is timely and a solid assessment of what to expect from the former Yankee.

While Damon did produce 24 home runs in 2009, there’s a great bet that the number will decrease. Leaving the homer-friendly Yankee Stadium, and heading to the more spacious fields in Detroit, Atlanta or Tampa would have a negative impact on his power numbers.

Baseball News Share says pass on the career year for Tampa Bay Ray Jason Bartlett.

When a player produces at a high-rate after a few average seasons, it’s always tough deciding whether it’s a career year or a breakout season. In Bartlett’s case, we’re highly suspicious. Expect a reality check, with dropoffs in batting average and run production.
