It used to be, that you could get away with drafting your starting second baseman fairly low in your league. However, in today’s game, there are just too many studs at second to pass up if you are looking to have success in your league.

If you look around the league, you just might notice that some of the top run producers and highly touted fantasy players are at second base. The numbers are increasing steadily with each coming year and it probably wouldn’t hurt to pay close attention to your pre-draft second base rankings. Read more »

Pitching Prevails in All-Star Game

After nearly 5 hours and 15 innings, and in front of barely 20,000 fans, a clock crawling towards 2 a.m. and a very nervous Bud Selig, the American League finally won its 11th straight All-Star game Wednesday morning.

While much of the game had unprecedented defense, second-time All-Star Dan Uggla and first-timer Edinson Volquez turned in forgettable performances for the National League. Volquez gave up a game-tying home run to game M.V.P. J.D. Drew and Uggla committed an All-Star game record 3 errors and was overmatched at the plate, striking out 3 times and rolling weakly into a double play. Read more »

Fantasy: Midseason NL All-Star Team

Welcome to another meaningless fantasy awards column, one where nothing is gained other than the satisfaction of seeing your players listed. This is the National League’s midseason fantasy all-star team, where production is great, but even better when it’s relative to low expectation.
 
Of course, seasons never unfold how preseason fantasy drafts dictate they should. Superstars slump and get injured; uknowns take the fantasy world by storm and lift teams to championships. Dan Uggla Having Historic May

On April 31, Florida Marlins second baseman Dan Uggla was hitting .245 with 4 home runs and 12 RBIs. With the onset of May and a drop from second to sixth in the Marlins lineup, he has not only propelled his team into the National League East lead, but also established himself as a premier Major League and fantasy second baseman.

He provided confirmation of his elite status again Sunday with a two-run homer off of San Francisco Giants starter Pat Misch, his league-leading16th of the season and team record 12th of May. Read more »
